Nahuatl Lesson #1
When the Spaniards invaded our people and their priests wanted to "save
our souls", they quickly learned our language using the Roman alphabet
to represent Nahuatl sounds. The Roman alphabet is not a very good representation
of our language as there are many sounds which do not exist in their
alphabet. The following are the sounds made in the Nahuatl language
(all letters except for LL and X are pronounced as they would be in
Spanish NOT English.):

Grammar Rules No. 1-5:
1. The H is utilized to represent a smooth J
sound.
2. The LL is NOT pronounced as it is in Spanish. Pronounce it as one
L.
3. The X is pronounced as SH.
4. The C is pronounced as a K.
5. Like in Spanish, There are also accents in Nahuatl. The accents are
always stressed on the second - to - last vowel. i.e. mexIca, teotihuAcan,
tenochtItlan, teocAlli.
